Amplitude vs Mixpanel vs Heap
Which product signals reach sales?.
The choice turns on what you need to pass from product activity into a sales or customer team. Amplitude documents behavioral cohort sync to HubSpot and Salesforce data as group properties. Mixpanel offers account analysis through a Group Analytics add-on and documents cohort export to Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Heap documents account health analysis and a two-way Salesforce workflow. Start with the destination, identity key, and behavior you want to act on, then test whether the handoff preserves all three. 123567
- For a HubSpot lead workflow: Amplitude's guide connects behavioral cohorts to HubSpot and places lead scoring there. 2
- For account-level analysis in Mixpanel: confirm the Group Analytics add-on before designing reports. 3
- For Salesforce account health: Heap describes joining CRM properties to user events and surfacing insights in Salesforce. 6
1. Compare the path from event to action
| Decision point | Amplitude | Mixpanel | Heap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account context | Salesforce fields can become group properties in Amplitude. 1 | Account Analytics analyzes adoption and funnels by account properties; the Group Analytics add-on is required. 3 | Account Health Analysis groups users by Account ID. 7 |
| Documented handoff | A behavioral cohort can sync to HubSpot. 2 | User cohorts can export to Salesforce Marketing Cloud. 5 | Heap describes surfacing insights in Salesforce. 6 |
| First implementation check | Send test events and inspect the Salesforce group mapping. 12 | Check the add-on and the user property used for destination matching. 35 | Choose a unique Account ID and inspect the Salesforce property link. 67 |
These are documented workflows, not proof that a vendor will create qualified pipeline for your company. An analytics event becomes useful to a rep only after your team defines its meaning, associates the user with the right account, sends or exposes it in the system the rep uses, and decides who owns follow-up. The table shows where the official pages are specific. It does not imply that the three products have equivalent destinations or the same commercial entitlements.
2. Choose Amplitude when HubSpot is the destination
Amplitude's HubSpot Quickstart gives a concrete sequence: track behavior, select users with a cohort, sync that cohort to HubSpot, and configure product-qualified lead scoring in HubSpot. That division of work matters. The analytics tool selects behavior; the receiving system applies the score and any workflow. A team that already manages lead assignment in HubSpot can use this documented path as a test case, while checking its own identity mapping and permissions before using it operationally. 2
The guide also says to send test events from the website or CMS to verify instrumentation. Treat that as the first gate. If an event name, user identifier, or account identifier changes between the product and the destination, a polished cohort definition may still point at the wrong record. Build one sample cohort with known users, confirm membership in both systems, and inspect the actual HubSpot record before adding assignment logic. This is an implementation recommendation based on the documented test and sync steps, not a measured performance claim. 2
Amplitude separately documents a Salesforce V2 source integration that imports selected Salesforce fields as group properties. Its mapping turns Salesforce rows into groups under a chosen group type. The page says group-property updates run daily by default and offers an hourly schedule. That is useful context for account analysis, but it is an inbound Salesforce-to-Amplitude flow. Do not mistake it for proof that the same integration writes a sales signal back to a Salesforce record. Ask which direction each integration moves data before you draw the architecture. 1
3. Choose Mixpanel when account analysis needs an add-on
Mixpanel describes Account Analytics as a way to analyze account-level adoption, funnel progress, and account-property breakdowns. It also gives an activation example based on the number of users who performed an action within an account. That is a useful fit when the question is not merely whether one person clicked, but whether enough people at a customer account reached a defined product milestone. The event and account definition still belong to your team. 3
There is a procurement detail to check early: Mixpanel's own article says the Group Analytics add-on is required for Account Analytics features. A trial that only proves user-level event tracking does not validate the account workflow you intend to buy. Request access to the relevant account features, create a group with a known set of users, and compare the report to a trusted CRM account record. Mixpanel says it tracks events and user attributes in separate tables, so inspect how the group and user identifiers are populated as part of that trial. 34
For outward activation, Mixpanel documents an export of user cohorts to Salesforce Marketing Cloud. That is a specific destination, not a blanket claim about every Salesforce product. Its documentation says profiles without the selected user property will not export because that property is required for matching. Before selecting Mixpanel for this route, identify the exact subscriber key, test one known profile, and check the result in the Marketing Cloud data extension. A missing identifier is a handoff problem even when the source cohort is correct. 5
4. Choose Heap when Salesforce account context is central
Heap's Salesforce integration page says account and lead properties in Salesforce can be linked to user and event properties in Heap. It also describes surfacing Heap insights within Salesforce. For a sales or customer success team already living in Salesforce, that makes the integration path worth testing with one known account and a small set of product actions. The page does not by itself establish how your custom sales process will route, score, or prioritize records. Those rules need to be configured and checked in your own environment. 6
Heap's Account Health Analysis guide says it measures feature adoption and engagement per account. It explains that users sharing a selected Account ID are grouped into the corresponding account. This is the identity decision to get right before interpreting any account signal. A company name can be inconsistent across records; the guide explicitly calls for an Account ID guaranteed to be unique. Test an account with multiple users and confirm that their product actions aggregate under the intended account before sharing a report with a rep. 7
The same guide describes an Add Account Properties API for teams whose CRM is not Salesforce. That makes the account model possible to examine outside the Salesforce path, but it adds implementation work: someone must provide account IDs and update properties as they change. Heap also describes building segments from customer size or revenue on its Salesforce integration page. Those are useful dimensions for comparing usage, provided the underlying account data is correct and current. 67
5. Run one sales-signal test before choosing
Write down one candidate behavior, such as completion of a product setup step, and define it as an event with a stable identifier. Decide whether the action belongs to a user, an account, or both. For the account view, prepare a known account with two users and a unique CRM account ID. Then ask each vendor to show the complete path: captured event, account association, cohort or account report, destination record, and update cadence. These are proposed test steps, not claims that any platform will automatically qualify a lead.
Record the destination precisely. Amplitude's cited route is to HubSpot cohorts, while its Salesforce page describes importing group context into Amplitude. Mixpanel's cited cohort destination is Salesforce Marketing Cloud and requires a matching user property. Heap describes both Salesforce context entering Heap and insights being surfaced in Salesforce. A generic checkmark for “Salesforce integration” hides these directional differences. Draw arrows for every data movement and test both sides of each arrow. 1256
Finally, separate analytical visibility from operational action. A cohort may be accurate yet arrive too late for the workflow you intend; an account report may be useful yet never reach the owner who needs it. Amplitude documents daily Salesforce group-property updates with an hourly option, while Mixpanel documents cohort export to its named destination. Verify the cadence and record-level result for the exact plan and integration you will use. Avoid comparing vendor claims as if they measured sales lift. 15

How we researched this
We reviewed seven vendor-owned documentation and product pages on October 9, 2026. We used the pages to distinguish account analysis from data export and to identify the destination named by each integration. Every product claim above maps to a dated, saved page and an exact quote. We did not use vendor claims as evidence of a sales outcome. 123567
